Man Sends $200k to His Online Girlfriend of 2.5 Years Only to Discover It Was a Scam

I’m not sure whether to laugh or cry at this story. A 48-year-old man from Naperville, IL carried on a 2.5 year relationship with what he thought was his online girlfriend.

After bilking him out of around $200k over the 2.5 year period, money which the man unbelievably wired to different bank accounts in Nigeria, Malaysia, England and the United States, his “girlfriend” figured she had enough and dropped off the radar. The man called the cops fearing she had been kidnapped and was in danger.

Police in Illinois said a man “was in disbelief” when officers told him the online girlfriend to whom he had given $200,000 was not a real person.

Apparently in 2.5 years they never Skyped or video chatted or exchanged photos. The one photo the man had of his supposed girlfriend was from a sample driver’s license from Florida.

We are still in 2011 right? I think it’s only fair that Charlie Sheen let this guy party with him for a week to make up for this terrible ripoff.
