Earlier tonight on my weekly radio show we were talking about the events that unfolded over the past 18 days in Egypt and I was looking for a word to describe how I felt when watching the protests today. “Humbled” was the word I came up with. Watching the reaction of the Egyptian people as Mubarek officially announced that he was stepping down today was a humbling experience. Seeing the Egyptian people depose a dictator that had been in power for 30 years without violence over the course of 18 days was simply humbling.
Far too often we throw around the word “amazing” to describe something but what took place in Egypt today was truly amazing.
I came across this posted on Reddit later on and thought it was a wonderful way to drop a little note to the Egyptian people and let them know that we are with them.
It’s not lost on me that Egypt, already known as the cradle of civilization, may also be the cradle to a new brand of revolution and democracy around the world.
Thank you Egypt, you made the world a brighter place by shining the light of democracy onto your people and we are grateful.
